Debt collection lawyer: personal debts, IOUs, and utility-bill disputes
For creditors
A counterparty has not paid for goods, work, services, or a loan. The agreement, performance, and payment records need to be compared.
- What the lawyer checks
- The contract, proof of performance, debt calculation, payments, and correspondence.
- Review outcome
- See what supports the demand and which records are needed for the next step.
For debtors
The amount claimed does not match the records, part of the balance was paid, or the basis for charges is unclear.
- What the lawyer checks
- The debt calculation, payments made, contract terms, and basis for added charges.
- Review outcome
- Identify which part of the amount is disputed and how to support your position.
At the court or enforcement stage
A claim, court act, enforcement document, or bailiff action in an enforcement case needs an individual review.
- What the lawyer checks
- The claim, court act, enforcement document, notices, and enforcement officer’s actions.
- Review outcome
- Understand the enforcement stage and which procedural steps need review.
What a debt lawyer reviews
- The basis of the obligation: agreement, order, written acknowledgment, acceptance record, and what each party did.
- The amount claimed: principal, payments made, and the basis for any additional charges.
- Correspondence and responses, to separate supported facts from disputed points.
- A demand, response, objection, settlement proposal, or procedural papers within the agreed scope.
- Court and enforcement stages as separate questions where the required grounds exist.

Debt recovery under Kazakhstan law
Kazakhstan’s Civil Code governs obligations and their performance. The agreement and amount matter, as do records showing whether money, goods, or work were provided, when payment was due, and what has already been paid.
Court proceedings and compulsory enforcement are separate stages. Enforcement requires a document recognized by law; a court act alone does not guarantee that money will actually be recovered. Venue, timing, charges, and procedure must be checked against the facts of the particular dispute.
Debt collection questions
Must a demand be sent before going to court?
That depends on the law, agreement, and type of claim. Check whether a pre-court procedure applies and what the demand should record before sending it.
Does a court claim or judgment guarantee repayment?
No. A lawyer can review evidence and support agreed steps, but cannot guarantee a court decision or that assets will be available for enforcement.
Can a debt be claimed without a written contract?
That depends on the basis of the obligation and the evidence as a whole. The facts and available records need to be reviewed first.
What if part of the amount has already been paid?
Gather payment records and a reconciliation. Separate the remaining principal from disputed charges and check how each payment was applied.
Can a lawyer review a personal debt documented by an IOU?
We can compare the IOU, evidence that money was transferred, due dates, payments, and the parties’ correspondence. Any demand or response depends on the records reviewed.
Can a debt lawyer review a disputed utility bill?
We can compare the billing period, statements, payment records, notices, and the calculation behind the demand. The assessment and next step depend on the documents and circumstances.
Who carries out compulsory enforcement?
A state or private bailiff carries out compulsory enforcement under the statutory procedure and on the basis of an enforcement document listed in Kazakhstan law. A lawyer’s role is agreed separately.
Questions before a consultation
How much does a consultation cost?
We agree on the fee and format before the consultation. This request is only to arrange a time and does not start paid work.
What does the consultation include?
We discuss the circumstances and materials you provide, explain possible steps and key risks, and identify documents for the next stage. Document preparation and case representation are agreed separately.
Which documents should I prepare?
If you have them, prepare relevant contracts, decisions, correspondence, and calculations. You do not need to send them to book; do not submit identity or bank documents through this form.
How do we agree on the place, format, and time?
Before the consultation, we will contact you using your selected method and agree on an available format and convenient time.
What if I need further help?
We agree on its scope and fee before separate work begins. A consultation request is not an instruction to prepare documents or represent you.
